Sometimes payments fail to process. This can happen for various reasons, but most issues can be resolved.

Common reasons for failed payments

Insufficient funds — Your account doesn’t have enough money. Add funds or use a different payment method. Payment method issues — Your card or bank account details are invalid, expired, or have restrictions. Check your payment method settings. Bank processing errors — Temporary issues with your bank or the payment provider. Usually resolves automatically on retry. Authorisation declined — Your bank declined the payment. This could be due to security settings or account restrictions.

What happens when a payment fails

When a payment fails:
  • The payment status is updated to “Failed”
  • Your order remains unpaid
  • You can try paying again with the same or a different payment method
Failed payments don’t automatically retry. You need to initiate payment again.

Resolving failed payments

To fix a failed payment:
  1. Check your payment method — Ensure details are correct and up to date
  2. Verify funds — Make sure you have sufficient funds available
  3. Try a different method — Use an alternative payment method if one fails
  4. Contact your bank — If issues persist, contact your bank to check for restrictions
BECS payments can fail if bank account details are incorrect. Double-check your account number and BSB code when setting up BECS payment methods.
